Laura Elaine Taylor

Laura Elaine Taylor of St. Robert, Missouri, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 30, 2017, after a 3-year battle with cancer. She was born on March 16, 1957, in Quonset Point, Rhode Island to Lloyd and Alice (Jackson) Mills. Laura attended schools in Rhode Island, California, and Illinois, as the daughter of a Naval Service Member. She graduated from Bushnell-Prairie City High School in 1975 and Western Illinois University in 1983 with a bachelor’s degree in music therapy and psychology. While at Western Illinois University, Laura met a Scottish soccer player, Raymond Taylor, at The Regulator. Laura and Raymond were married on August 2, 1980 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Macomb, Illinois.

As newlyweds, Laura and Raymond lived in Canada while he pursued a professional soccer career. Later, they lived at U.S. Army bases in Virginia and Missouri while Raymond was a US Army Service Member. Laura was a social worker for the Pulaski County Department of Children and Family Services and a paraprofessional for elementary schools in the Fort Leonard Wood, MO area. Laura enjoyed all types of music, playing the guitar, watching musicals and classic movies, antiquing with her sisters, collecting anything Snoopy, taking care of and spending time with her dogs, and reading-especially mysteries. She made amazing chocolate chip cookies and created beautiful cross stitch designs. Laura and Raymond raised two children: Rachel (Jessica Daws) Taylor of Salem, OR, and Andrew Taylor of Birmingham, AL, of whom she was so very proud.

Laura is survived by her husband; 2 children; daughter-in-law; father, Lloyd Mills of Macomb, IL; sisters--Kristine (Gene) Frakes of Macomb, IL, and Julia (Steven) Ruckman of Freeport, IL; mother-in-law--Catherine Taylor of ON, Canada; sisters-in-law--Catherine (Allen) McElroy and Jaqueline (Shervin) Reyhani of ON, Canada; brother-in-law--Ian (Cherie) Taylor of ON, Canada; nieces--Amanda Frost Frakes, Brittany Frakes, Mya Campbell (great-niece), Nicolette Reyhani, Keyana Reyhani, and Lauren McElroy; nephews—Justin (Erin) Frakes, David (Janet) Frizzell, Michael Frizzell, Gannon Ruckman, Cameron McElroy, Scott Taylor, Ian Taylor, Bryan (Brittany) Taylor, Paityn Taylor (great-neice), Bentley Taylor (great-nephew); and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother--Alice Mills; father-in-law--John Taylor; brother-in-law--Brian Taylor; maternal grandparents--Grover and Myrtle Jackson; paternal grandparents--Ray and Goldie Mills; 7 aunts; and 7 uncles.

Visitation will be Wednesday September 6th, from 10 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. followed by the memorial service at 11:30 a.m. at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home, 303 East Washington Street, Macomb, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fort Leonard Wood, MO School District libraries, Pulaski County Humane Society, and the Dachshund Rescue.
