Marilyn Kay (Dohner) Johnson, 71, Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 2:30 p.m., October 7, 2017, at The Elms Nursing Home, Macomb, Illinois.
She was born May 27, 1946, in Rushville, Illinois to Robert Samuel and Beulah Marie (Gibble) Dohner. She married Jim Taylor in Astoria, Illinois on August 15, 1965. They divorced in 1985. She married William Garry Johnson June 25, 1989, in Macomb, Illinois. He survives.
Marilyn is also survived by one sister: Martha (Lee) Fillingham of Table Grove, Illinois and two brothers David Dohner of Vermont, Illinois and Mark Dohner of Ipava, Illinois; two sons of husband Garry Johnson--Christopher Johnson of Los Angeles, California and Colin Johnson of Bloomington, Indiana; five Dohner nieces and nephews (Anthony Fillingham of Macomb, Illinois, Aaron [Lena] Dohner of Eureka, Illinois, Dawn Dohner of Vermont, Illinois, Dianne [Cody] Stinnett of Vermont, Illinois and Amy [Nick] Grimberg of Vermont, Illinois and 7 Johnson nieces and nephews in Canada, 9 Dohner and 8 Johnson grand-nieces and grand-nephews; two Johnson brother-in-laws: John Edward Johnson and Douglas Harry Johnson of Toronto, Ontario, Canada; and, a number of aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Beulah Dohner, and brother-in-law Warren Albert Johnson.
Marilyn graduated from V.I.T. High School, Table Grove, Illinois and Midstate College of Commerce, Peoria, Illinois. She thoroughly enjoyed her 38-1/2 years of service to Western Illinois University as a Clerk Stenographer, Personnel Assistant, and Executive Secretary to the President/Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
She served as a 30+-year member of the McDonough County 708 Board of Directors, and during her career, she served the Western Athletic Club Board of Directors, McDonough County United Way Board of Directors, Performing Arts Society Board of Directors, Macomb Altrusa Club, Fulton/McDonough County Mental Health Center, Business and Professional Womens Club, and as co-chair of the WIU Centennial Celebration Committee. She was proud to be named in 1999 as one of the 50 Women of Western and in 2005 to be honored by the WIU Alumni Association as a Western Illinois University Honorary Alum as well as being named in 2005 by WIU students as Grand Marshal of the WIU Homecoming Parade.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 29, 2017, at 1:00 pm. at the The Grand Ballroom, Western Illinois University in the University Union, one and one half hour prior to a Celebration of Life service which will be held at 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom. Pastor Barry Reed will officiate.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private interment will be Oakwood Cemetery, Macomb, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Western Illinois University Foundation W. Garry & Marilyn K. Johnson Scholarship Fund.
Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of arrangements.
