Shirley Anne (Parker/Bell) Henninger, 89, passed away peacefully, at her residence in Good Samaritan Society Nursing Facility in Geneseo, Illinois, on Friday, May 19, 2017, at 3:45 p.m. Shirley was born February 9, 1928, to Sam and Aline Parker in Hillerman, IL in Massac County. She married Ralph Harrison (Jack) Bell II on June 29, 1947. Jack preceded her in death in September, 1974. She married Andrew Henninger on January 3, 1978. Andy preceded her in death in April, 2011. Also, preceding Shirley in death were her parents and brothers Kenneth and James Parker.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Ralph (Jean) Bell of Beech Grove, Indiana and Jack (Susie) Bell of Benton Harbor, Michigan; daughters Roxie Rittenhouse (Dave) Jones of Kansas City MO, Suzy Bell (Jay) Heaton of Geneseo IL, and Juli Bell (Mike) Hubbard of Woodridge, IL. Also surviving are Shirley’s grandchildren Jason Bell, Mindy Rittenhouse, Niki Rittenhouse, Jeremy Heaton, Stephanie Heaton Mowers, Jaran Heaton, Samantha Heaton Whitham, Jenelle Hubbard, Chris Hubbard, Jack Bell Jr, Andrew Bell, and Henry Bell. Also surviving her are great grandchildren Vivian Bell, Sam Bell, Lucas Heaton, Benjamin Mowers, and Grace Heaton. She is also survived by stepson, Thomas (Cynthia) Henninger of Rushville IL, Stepdaughters Jane (Rich) Lafnitzegger of Long Grove, IL, Lynn (Kelly) Stambaugh of Rushville IL, and Edie Henninger Williams (Damien) Cook of Ponte Vedra, FL. Step grandchildren include Paige Henninger, Andrea and Laura Lafnitzegger, Zeke and Julie Stambaugh, and Emma, Joshua, and Olivia Williams, and Sloane and Sawyer Cook.
Shirley is also survived by her very dear sister Judy (Bill) Schehl of Geneseo, IL, brother Dan (Donna) Parker, VT, and sisters-in-law Sarah Parker and Donna Cottrell.
Shirley worked for Western Illinois University for 25 years retiring as the Director of Registration. She loved working with college students and enjoyed her co-workers. Shirley loved to travel, read, and spend time with her family. During the spring she liked mushroom hunting, bird watching, and enjoyed the flowers in her yard. She was known for her sweet smile and her kindness.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 12:00 Noon at the Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb, IL. with Dr. Howard White officiating. Shirley’s family will meet with friends for an hour prior to services at the funeral home. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon at the Wesley United Methodist Church directly after the service.
