Zola Irene (Sims) Provine AlexanderMarch 3, 2017
Zola Irene (Sims) Provine Alexander, 97, passed away peacefully, at her residence in Grand Prairie Assisted Living, Macomb, Illinois, on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 3:28 p.m.. She was born April 21, 1919, to Claude and Alice (Hunter) Sims in Bethel Township, McDonough County. Zola married William George Provine on March 15, 1937. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1955. She married John Alexander on August 11, 1958. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2010. Also, preceding her were her parents, daughter Betty Shannon, sister Ferne Lewellin, brothers William and George Sims, and one step daughter-in-law, Janet Alexander.
She is survived by her sons, Harvey (Carole) Provine and Roger (Lorna) Provine of Macomb, grandchildren, Heidi McKinney, Springfield, Denise VanAcker, Nick VanAcker of Moline, Ann Mellinger, Burlington, Lynnette Cale, Macomb, and Ross Provine, Metamora. Also surviving are great grandchildren Megan Dunnill, Courtney Williams, Chaunté and Miranda VanAcker, Bruce and Joel Provine, and Nina Cale, and great-great grandchildren, Cooper Smith, Oliver Dunnill and Ja'Nyiah VanAcker. She is also survived by stepsons, Gary (Shirley) Alexander and Frank Alexander and stepdaughter, Bonita Cassidy and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren. Zola and her husband, William, lived on a farm in Scotland Township where they raised dairy cattle. After William's death as the result of a farm accident, Zola and her young sons continued to milk the cows morning and night. She later worked at the Illinois Department of Motor Vehicles in Macomb and Ebey's License Service. She enjoyed bowling and fishing. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed attending all their activities. Zola accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior in January, 1934. She attended the First Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Clugston -Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Rev.Kelly Ingersoll will officiate. Burial will be at the Camp Creek Cemetery south of Macomb. The family will meet with friends one hour before the time of service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church in Macomb or Harbor Lights Hospice in Galesburg.
