On August 11, 2019 at 12:25 a.m. Alma V. Frakes, 18 days shy of her 90th birthday, gained her heavenly wings.
She was born Alma V. Weaver on August 30, 1929 in New Philadelphia, Illinois. She was the eldest daughter of Howard M. and Willamae (Ferrell) Weaver of Joetta. Alma married Bobbie L. Frakes March 22, 1951 in Pochahontas, Arkansas, then traveled to Nashville for a honeymoon at the Grand Ole Opry. He passed away on July 20, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Beth Ann McGruder; her son, Howard Lee Frakes; one sister, Inez Koeber, and one infant grandson, Robert.
Alma is survived by one daughter, Connie (Gary) Lybarger of Monmouth; her grandchildren were the highlight of her life, Erika (Luke) Thomas, Denise (Larry) Green, Krista (Noah) Ulrich, all of Florida, Kaleb McGruder, Jason (Lori) McGruder, Janell McGruder, all of Macomb, Jennifer Wiltermood of Quincy, Willo Shutwell of LaHarpe, Rainie Barnes and Jesse Frakes of Plymouth; 14 great-grandchildren and one brother, Marion (Marylou) Weaver of Joetta.
Alma worked her early years as a nanny in Bushnell. After marrying and raising her children she became a CNA and worked at area nursing homes. Her family will be lost without all the great family dinners that she prepared over the years, especially her homemade noodles, pumpkin pies and zucchini brownies.
Alma will be missed by many people, she always had a kind word and loving smile for everyone. She truly loved her family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Reverend Jon Keck officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Stoneking Cemetery in Bethel Township.
