Don Wendell Mathis, 73, of Macomb went to be with his Lord and Savior at 11:15 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 3, 1944 in Pittsfield, Illinois to Wendell W. and Helen A. Douglas Mathis. He married Shirley E. Martin on January 3, 1968 in Nogales, Arizona. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Sherri (Steven) Oyler of Millstadt, Illinois, Vicki (Corey) Millard of Oregon, Wisconsin and Diana (Chad) Wade of Decatur, Illinois; one son, Marcus (Kara) Mathis of Normal, Illinois; grandchildren, Jared and Zachary Farniok, Tyler and Hayley Millard, Lucas and Owen Wade and Skylar and Josie Mathis and two brothers, Ray (Amy) Mathis of Seminole, Florida and Lee (Janet) Mathis of Simpsonville, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Don attended Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas and was a member of Macomb Church of Christ. He worked in residential carpentry owning Don Mathis Construction for 53 years before his retirement.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Macomb Church of Christ with Tim Burke officiating. The family will meet with friends from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Private burial of ashes will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
