Donald Porter, age 85, a resident of the Montibello Nursing Home in Hamilton, Illinois, and formerly of Blandinsville, passed away at 1:15 P.M. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at the nursing home.
He was born on June 23, 1932 in Colchester, Illinois the son of Jesse and Gladys Hawkins Porter. He married Sondra Metcalf, and she preceded him in death on November 3, 2017.
Donald is survived by one son Donnie Porter, one daughter Debra Fowler, five grandchildren, two stepsons Scott (Vickie) Hardisty of Carthage, and David Hardisty of Bloomington, one sister Marilyn Reeves of Tennessee Illinois, and one brother Marshall Porter of Plymouth, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and several brothers and sisters.
Donald was an Army veteran serving from 1949 until 1952, he had lived in Blandinsville for most of his life and had worked for many years as a truck driver before his retirement.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Clugston Tibbitts Funeral Home in Blandinsville. Rev. A. Lee Unger will officiate. The family will meet with friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the funeral home. Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Macomb American Legion and the Macomb V.F.W. Memorials may be made to the Donald Porter Memorial Fund.
