Dr. Clyde L. CronkhiteJanuary 22, 1938 ~ October 28, 2017 (age 79)
Dr. Clyde L. Cronkhite, age 79, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Macomb, Illinois and southern California passed away at 1:35 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, with his wife Patricia at his side.
He was born on January 22, 1938 in Oakland, California to Evelyn Sochia Cronkhite and Claude Cronkhite. He married Patricia Niquette Charvet on January 31, 1987 in Los Angeles, California. She survives.
Also surviving are his brother, son, two daughters and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Clyde lived in southern California before moving to Macomb in 1993. He worked for thirty years in law enforcement (Officer through Deputy Chief, Los Angeles Police Department and Chief of Police in Santa Ana, California). He worked for twenty years in Academia (Director, Chair, Professor at University of Southern California and Western Illinois University). He authored several textbooks and many articles on criminal justice subjects; latest textbook is Law Enforcement & Justice Administration: Strategies for the 21st Century.
He received his Doctor of Public Administration degree from the University of Southern California, where he had also earned his Masters degree. He was co-founder of the McDonough County Community Quality of Life Advisory Committee in 1994 where he served as Vice Chair and Historian for more than 20 years.
Clyde was a member of the International Chiefs of Police Association and Police Executive Research Forum.
His hobbies included performing magic, skiing and travel. He graduated from the Chavez College of Magic and Prestidigitation and was a member of the Academy of Magical Arts/Magic Castle in Hollywood, International Brotherhood of Magicians and Society of American Magicians. He was the author of the Magic and Mystery of Johnny Copper.
Private graveside services where held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, Illinois.
