James A. Hackbarth, age 68, a longtime resident of Macomb, peacefully passed away at 8:55 A.M. on January 27, 2018 with his wife Lynn and his dog Buddy at his side.
James was born on June 29, 1949 in Prairieville, Illinois the son of Walter and Mary Wade Hackbarth.
He is survived by his wife Lynn Marchetta Hackbarth and his sister Shirley Knutti.
James was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Janet Bushman and Marilyn McCullough.
James, who was also known as Sarge and Hack by his friends and family, was an avid golfer, bowler and NASCAR fan.
He was a protective and caring uncle to his many nieces and nephews. Jim loved and served his country in Vietnam. He served in the Army for 26 years and was the First Sgt. at the National Guard Armory in Macomb for many years. He retired from the military in 1999.
Jim was a dedicated and loyal Cubs and Packers fan.
Lynn and Jims family are very grateful for the care provided by the staffs of Heartland Rehab Center and MDH Hospice for the compassionate, kind and loving care provided to Jim over the past many months.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at St. Pauls Catholic Church in Macomb with Father Adam Stimpson officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at St. Pauls Catholic Church. Full military rites will be conducted at the church following the mass by the Macomb American Legion and Macomb V.F.W. Clugston -Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorials to be made in Jims name to MDH Hospice or McDonough County Animal Shelter.
