John Hopping, 72, of Quincy, formerly of Macomb passed away at 3:35 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Quincy.
He was born on September 29, 1946 in Adair to Francis and Flora Black Hopping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bonnie and Doris Hopping and one brother, Carl "Bill" Hopping.
He is survived by several cousins.
John lived all of his life in McDonough County. He was a graduate of Macomb High School. He worked on the Wilson Barclay farm all of his life.
John was a life member of the Macomb VFW and a member of the Macomb American Legion. He was an Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. John received the Purple Heart for being wounded in service to his country. John received the first KHQA Hometown Hero Award in 2016.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. Visitation will be held on an hour prior to services. Burial will be in Pennington Point Cemetery west of Adair with full military rites being conducted by the Macomb VFW and Macomb American Legion.
Memorials may be made to the Macomb VFW, Diabetes Association, or the Great River Honor Flight.
