Robert Sibbing, 88, of Macomb passed away at 8:20 a.m. Sunday, July 2, 2017 after a brief stay at Heartland Healthcare Center in Macomb.
He was born in Quincy to Bertram and Ruby Sibbing.
He is survived by three sons, Scott (Lori) Sibbing of Colchester, Eric (Laura) Sibbing of Tennessee and Paul (Shannon Maffia) of Orland Hills; five grandchildren, Christopher, Sonja, Haley and Conner Sibbing and Keith Maffia; one great-grandson, Elliott Sibbing and one brother, Jim Sibbing of Quincy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and 2 sons Greg and Brad.
He graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School and joined the Army at age 17. He served in occupied Germany and played in the 28th Army band. He was discharged in 1948.
He attended the University of Iowa, Western Illinois University and University of Illinois earning his Doctorate of Education in 1969. He was employed by the Quincy public schools and taught saxophone and jazz at WIU before his retirement.
He continued to be active playing music in community bands and wind ensembles. He also wrote and published original music compositions.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Tony Ensenberger officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
