Robert "Bob" Horine

October 6, 1928 ~ August 30, 2018 (age 89)

Robert "Bob" Horine, of College Place, Washington, formerly of Macomb and Galesburg died peacefully in the care of family and loved ones in College Place, at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 at the age of 89.

He was born on October 6, 1928 in Macomb to Frank and Ella Crabb Horine.

Surviving are children, Teresa (Steve) Wheeler of College Place, Washington, Maura Horine of Spokane, Washington, John (Daya) Horine of Columbia Falls, Montana, Lora (Kerry) Poirier of Polson, Montana and Jeffrey Hamm of Kauai of the Hawaiian Islands; step-children, Vicki (Ned) Shane of Galesburg and Dale (Susan) Firof of Macomb; 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, James, John "Jack" and Donald "Doc" Horine and one sister, Helen (Horine) Davidson.

Bob grew up on a farm outside of Macomb. He graduated from Macomb High School in 1946. Bob joined the United States Army in 1948 and was discharged in December 13, 1951. Before and after his military service, Bob worked in the automotive industry. On December 5, 1971 Bob married the love of his life, Marjorie Jean (Greeling) Firof. This began a 47-year love affair that saw these two wonderful people grow inseparable. Bob and Jean owned and operated a stained-glass business where Bob used his creative and artistic skills to design, build and install church windows. In 1982, they were hired to manage Lafayette Square, a Senior Citizen Complex, in Macomb, Illinois. Bob and Jean continued as managers there until their retirement in 1991. After their retirement, they traveled the United States, working at places like Yellowstone National Park and a dude ranch in Colorado. In 2016, Bob and Jean moved to College Place, Washington to live with Bob’s daughter, Teresa (Steve) Wheeler.

Bob was passionate in his spiritual beliefs and a dedicated member of the Catholic Church. He was a man of solid faith, generosity and sense of humor. All these traits and the love that he shared will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside services will be held on Friday Oct. 12, 2018 at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Macomb at 2:00 p.m..
