Shirley Jean Bridgewater, 73, of rural Macomb, passed away at 12:31 a.m. Sunday, July 29, 2018 at OSF St. Marys Hospital in Galesburg.
She was born on June 7, 1945 in Macomb the daughter of Clifford and Jeanette (Caspall) Coker. She married Donald Bridgewater, Sr. on November 29, 1975. He survives.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Melisa (Shane) Thompson of Bardolph; sons, Rick (Sharon) Bridgewater of Monmouth, Donnie (Julie) Bridgewater, Jr. of Cambridge and Eric (Teanne) Bridgewater of Bensenville; Tracy (Steve) Woodson of Florida whom she considered a daughter; 14 grandchildren, Anthony, Hunter, Jenna, Morgan, soon to be born, Layne, Kasi, Kevin, Krystal, Dylan, Caleb, Noah, Sarah, Cindy, and Sierra; siblings, Pat Young, Ed (Pat) Coker, and Cindy (Jim) Hare, all of Macomb, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother-in-law, Eugene (Tuffy) Young.
Shirley graduated from Bardolph High School in 1963 and attended Quincy Beauty School. She was a cosmetologist for several local businesses, including her own salon. She also worked at Haeger Pottery, WIU Food Services, and Hy-Vee.
Shirley had a zest for life with her infectious outgoing, friendly personality always putting others first before herself. She enjoyed painting, drawing, spending time in her kitchen cooking her favorite dishes, and spending time with her family. She was the rock of her family and she loved her husband, children and grandchildren with all her heart. She will be greatly missed by those she touched in her very special way.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 10, 2018 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb with Reverend A. Lee Unger officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bardolph Cemetery.
