Agnes loved to tell the story of coming over on the ship which took 14 days to cross the ocean. She married Roger C. Nelson who was from Mora, Minnesota on January 14, 1945 in Philadelphia, PA. Roger passed away February 22, 1950 at the age of 29. She was a widow for 70 years. Agnes worked for Sears for many years as a bookkeeper. Agnes and her sister Effie moved from Philadelphia to Macomb in 1985 to be near her daughter. They lived just 3 doors down the street. She loved to be near her grandsons when they were growing up.
Surviving are her daughter Linda and husband David Hess. Agnes lived with her daughter and son-in-law for five years . Grandson Jeffrey Roger (Michelle) Hess and great-grandson Noah Michael Hess, also grandson Bryan Anton Hess. Both grandsons live in Sycamore & DeKalb, IL. Her grandsons were her pride and joy, and she loved her great-grandson Noah. Her other source of joy was her little dog Bonnie Belle. Bonnie would spend hours up on the bed with Agnes and they would take naps together.
A very special day for Agnes was her 100th birthday party which was held on April 28, 2018, at Wesley Community Center with many friends and family. Music was provided by Dave Goodlaxson and Andy Nippert. Ruth Parks a dear friend just six months younger than Agnes played Happy Birthday on the piano while all the guests sang to Agnes.
Agnes fell on December 9, 2019, and broke her right hip. Surgery was performed the next day and she healed. She went to Wesley Village to recuperate for three months. Linda and David brought her home on March 10th on Hospice. She has had very loving compassionate care the past three months.
Agnes was of the Undenominational Faith. She gave her life to the Lord at the age of 14 and she lived her faith for 88 years. She leaves us a Godly and faithful example to follow.
