Obituary

Clifford Edward "Ed" Coker, Jr, 69, of Macomb passed away at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at his residence.

He was born on April 11, 1950 in Macomb to Clifford and Jeanette Caspall Coker. He graduated from Bardoph High School and Western Illinois University with a degree in Animal Science. He married Patricia Curless on March 14, 1970 in Macomb. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Scott (Barb) Coker and Angie (Jeremy) Benson both of Macomb; grandchildren, Sydney, Hayley and Macy Coker and Alex, Matthew and Katherine Benson; two sisters, Patricia Young and Cindy (Jim) Hare.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Shirley Bridgewater; and two brothers-in-law. Bruce Bennett and Eugene Young.

After college, Ed worked as a carpenter on many of the subdivisions built in Macomb. He later became a hog buyer for Wilson Packing Company in Monmouth prior to becoming a full-time farmer. He also sold many rabbits to the youth of Macomb as the owner of ACE Rabbit Ranch. After he retired from farming, Ed worked as a researcher for Terrill Title Co., Inc.

Ed loved to travel. He and Pat took many motorcycle trips across the country with Pat’s sister, Sandy and her husband, Bruce. One of his favorite trips was to Mount Rushmore. They also took many family trips. Ed was very competitive with his grandchildren on the mini golf course.

During the spring, Ed could often be found riding around the woods on his four wheeler, hunting for Morell mushrooms with his grandchildren. His favorite line was "now you have to be quiet, or else you’ll scare the mushrooms away".

Ed created many woodworking projects both big and small. From bookcases made for his grandchildren to bowls and candleholders turned on a lathe, Ed’s projects will be enjoyed by many for years to come.

One of Ed’s greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play sports. He always went early to get a front row parking spot to watch from, many times with his beloved dog, Maggie.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. You may send cards, memorials and condolences to the Coker Family at 16380 N. 1100th Road, Macomb, Illinois 61455.
