Evelyn Elaine (Burns) Frazier

July 24, 1948 ~ March 10, 2020 (age 71)

Obituary

Evelyn Elaine (Burns) Frazier, age 71, of 31 Indian Trail Rd., Macomb, Ill. passed away at 10:18 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.  She was born on July 24, 1948 in Moberly, MO to the late Reverend Arnold Burns and Evelyn (Huffine) Burns.  She preferred to be called by her middle name, Elaine, because she had the first name as her mother.

After graduating from Northeast High School in Kansas City, MO, Elaine attended Central Missouri State College (now University of Central Missouri) and then finished a B.S. in Elementary Education at Central Methodist College, Fayette, MO, where she met her future husband, Steve.  Elaine was married to Stephen L. Frazier, on March 24, 1973 in Kansas City, MO by her father, Reverend Arnold Burns.

She loved working with children.  Her first job was in the elementary school at Fort Leonard Wood, MO where she taught K-3.  When she gave birth to their first child, she chose to be a stay-at-home mother.

Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints tracted into the Fraziers while they were living in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in Morehead, KY.  They were later baptized along with their two children into the Church in Providence, RI on December 12, 1987.  Then, on April 21, 1989, they were sealed for time and eternity in the Washington DC temple as husband and wife.  They were also sealed at that time to their two children.  Elaine found great joy serving in the Church and later briefly served as an ordinance worker in the Nauvoo Illinois Temple before she became ill in 2019.

Elaine learned to play the piano at the age of six.  She loved to play for small and larger groups, for family, friends, and church groups.  She served many callings within her church as a pianist and an organist, most recently serving as the pianist for the primary.

She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.  She loved watching the television shows “The Voice”, “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent.”  She also enjoyed playing card games with her husband and grandchildren and taking pictures with her camera on trips.

She and her family lived in Missouri, Kentucky, Rhode Island, Connecticut, California, and Illinois, following and supporting her husband as he moved to different jobs at various colleges and universities.  She kept correspondence with many of her friends in these places over the years.

She is survived by her husband, Steve and their 2 children, Kimberly C. Grover and Derek K. Frazier,  and three grandchildren (Christiana M. Rivera, Tyler J. Grover, Ryan J. Grover).  She is also survived by one brother, Ralph Burns and his son, Brian.  On the Frazier side, she is survived by Leslie Ferguson, Bob Frazier, Marlis and Donald Frazier.  She is also survived by a number of cousins, nieces and nephews in the Burns, Frazier, Huffine and Jones families.

The viewing and funeral will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 2000 W Adams Rd, Macomb, IL on Saturday, March 14, 2020. The viewing will be at 2:00 p.m. and the funeral will be at 3:00 p.m. A light meal will follow. The burial will be at the Woods Chapel United Methodist Cemetery at 813 MO-131, Odessa, MO (Highway 131 south of Odessa, MO) at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2020.
